For as long as I can remember, I've loved to read and wanted to create books. My interest in writing began in the backseat of my Grandma's car when I was around eight. We were en route to her weekly hair appointment and I wrote my first story in a tiny Hello Kitty notebook. I read it to Grandma and she told me it was wonderful. That is my first memory of feeling proud of something I created. I didn't quite understand the publishing process at the time, but I trace my interest in books back to that moment.
When it came time to decide on a career path, I don't think anyone was surprised that I chose to study English. I earned a Bachelor of Arts in English with a minor in Leadership Studies in three years. While in school, I worked for the university's Writing Center. I got to spend my days reading papers and helping students improve their writing. This really solidified the editing dream for me.
In recent years, I've been able to gain experience in so many different writing mediums through freelance work: blogs, emails, social media copy, podcast show notes, and press releases. While I've enjoyed my time as a freelance writer, I know what I truly want to do is edit books. I want to be a compassionate and effective editor who helps authors put forth the most authentic and compelling versions of their stories. I recently completed the Denver Publishing Institute at the University of Denver. I was fortunate to learn about all sides of the industry, meet inspiring publishing professionals, and further develop my editing skills!
